The First UX Writer Conference is in the Books

The UX Writer community came together this week for a lot of great education and networking. The first UX Writer Conference took place on Tuesday, June 9 and Wednesday, June 10 – Everywhere! Over 350 participants joined the virtual event featuring a twenty sessions consisting of keynote presentation, concurrent breakouts, one-on-one speed networking, participant-led ad hoc sessions, book club talks, and several product vendors.

The idea for the event began at the start of this year as a gathering together of a few dozen UX writers in the Seattle area. A few talks, share a meal and a drink, and celebrate an interest in an emerging discipline of writing. The challenges of the pandemic changed most of everything for everyone as we moved into March. Moving to an online event created the opportunity to have a much reduced registration fee and provide access to UX writers all over the world.

It was really exciting to see so many people come together without airplanes, hotel rooms and travel time. The technology and platforms have really arrived to make online events more than a series of recorded presentations. We can share our voice and image and our work from the safety and comfort of home and office. Getting together in person is always going to have its benefits. But it was fun and rewarding to celebrate our professional interests in this online format.

Thank you so much to all the participants, speakers, exhibitors, hosts, and staff.

I look forward to doing it again!
