Challenges of Building a Global UX Team

If you are the only writer, you might find it difficult to communicate your ideas and voice your concerns, as no one else seems to understand the importance of UX writing.

If you have more than one writer on the team, you gain more influence, but you start thinking about building a streamlined process that can scale and grow as your team expands. At every stage of its development, a team of writers can face challenges that cause friction.

In my talk I’d like to look back at the journey we made as an international team of writers and share the tricks that helped us be more effective and confident. We established our own writing process that allowed us to work with a 12-hour time difference, and we created a UX writing style guide to maintain consistency, follow brand guidelines, and adopt best practices in UX writing.

You will learn:

  • How to build confidence and trust when you’re starting as a writer
  • How to make the onboarding process smoother
  • How to approach peer review to avoid bottlenecks and why hallway testing and chat polls can ruin your copy
  • Why it’s important to educate your teams about UX writing and why it will never take your job away, even if they learn how to do it
